Live from Hogans

New postby JPSTEPHENS on Thu Jul 29, 2010 8:01 pm

We had a great turnout tonight! With a turnout of app. 1 car, Wesley Rotenberry, the crowd was HUGE! Ray Ray would like to thank all the late model cars for NOT showing up, but Wesley would like to thank y' all for not showing up cause he picked up 3 sponsors. Reporting from Hogans this is Hannah Stephens- Short Track Talk announcer!
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.

good job Wesley but the thing is the late model teams cant just up go on a dime of a race. You work all week to get the car to the track a lot of that means late fir. nights, and some cant come on a week night mark day would have to come from TN. the 89 from GA. and some in AL.have work all day on fir. i know they would love have more sponsors so ray ray may could try to them to come to some races may that would work out better for all

First of all I want to thank Ray Ray for attempting to give the drivers and tracks a night to display their racecars. Every driver needs to apologize to Ray Ray when they see him Saturday because he was totally embarrassed by the lack of effort from the drivers. I huge thank you needs to go out to Wesley Rotenberry and his parents for stepping up to the plate last night!
RAY RAY HAD THIS PLANNED FOR SEVERAL WEEKS! HE HAD SEVERAL DRIVERS TELL HIM THEY WOULD BE THERE! I was embarrassed for the series and the tracks who had a great opportunity to show a large packed house of people and potential sponsors what they had to offer in short track racing. Also it has been a MONTH since the last race, so there was enough time for repairs, ect. NO EXCUSES THERE. Mark Day, Bobby Castleberry, Jonathan Storms and Lee Hansard were not coming down for this because it was set up for the local drivers to let people on the Hyw. 280 side of town, know we still have racing in Birmingham even thought BIR was destroyed by an IDIOT! I met a lot of people who did not know where Sayre was even located.
This was a BIG missed opportunity for the teams as I talked to several people who were interested in sponsoring a late model. Questions were asked such as How Much does it cost to sponsor, What will I get in return for sponsoring a car. I haven’t met a car owner in any class who would turn down money from a potential sponsor.
It is true Wesley benefited the most by bringing his race car. I would look for him to be moving up to a Pure Street or an Open Wheel soon if that’s what he wants to do. Again thank you to RAY RAY and WESLEY.

I think I would invest $25.00 to take a chance on getting a sponsor. Plus there was someone there who was going to pay for the teams fuel expenses when they showed up.

STILL NO EXCUSES.

I made every effort i could to bring a car over there. Unfortunatly when a mcdonalds calls with an ice machine flooding the floor i have to go tend to business. I would have much rather been there showing off a ski Kar instead of laying on my belly in a wet floor at mcdonalds. Also i the rearend went out in my truck so that was a set back, but luckily i have a chevrolet and they loaned me a truck. I was set to go load up when i got the call from mcdonalds. I hate to see Rayray go thru all that trouble and embarrassment for there to be very little support. I think wesley should be rewarded for showing up. If i were sayre management i would waive his entry fee the rest of the year for helping promote their product. JMO

I agree, 25.00 or 30.00 dollars is a small sum to pay for the chance to get needed sponsership. The drivers and car owners really missed the boat on this one. Whether it be laziness, or just stupididy.
Congrats to Wesley, hope he benifits from his showing up.

Alot of people had to work until 5 if not later. It is hard to get out there on a week night due to working the day of and day after. Also it costs a bit more than $25 to drive from the Sayre area. I dont think it was any stupidity or lazyness. I'm pretty sure a lot of drivers did what they could to get there but when things comes up that is your job or other issues then you have to have your priorities in order. I'm sure the ones who promised are sorry and RayRay did what he could to get guys out, although if the part where someone was going to pay for the fuel out there was advertised it may have helped teams out and gotten more cars. Sponsors are hard to come by these days and i'm sure everyone regrets missing the oppurtunity but dont get on here and slam everyone who didn't or couldn't make it. Some people actually have a REAL job where they have to work 8-5 if not later.
